The Harvard Square Business Association teamed up with Food Day MA and Yelp Boston by creating the “20-Mile Food Challenge” and a Tasting Event on Brattle Square to celebrate Food Day on October 24th.
20-Mile Food Challenge: Participating restaurants celebrated Food Day with special offerings that sourced ingredients within 20 miles of Harvard Square. Okay, the roast beef sourced by Grendel’s Den was from Hopkinton, approximately 26.2 miles away… This was a great way to celebrate Food day’s mission to support healthy, affordable and sustainable food for all. Yelp Boston promoted the event in its newsletter to thousands of subscribers.
Tasting Event: Massachusetts led the nation with the most number of Food Day events including the HSBA Free Tasting Event on Brattle Plaza, in front of Crema Café. Live music provided a great vibe for hundreds of people to learn more about Food Day and enjoy sustainable and creative tidbits from b.good, Cardullo’s Gourmet Shoppe, Grafton Street, Grendel’s Den, the red house, Rialto, Russell House Tavern, Sandrine’s Bistro and UpStairs on the Square. National Food Day Coordinator Hayley Gillooly made a special trip from Washington D.C. to the Square and addressed the crowd.
Media Support: The HSBA promoted the 20-Mile Challenge and Tasting Event on www.harvardsquare.com and posted a special blog post on the Food Day MA website on the day that coincided with a story on Food Day in The Boston Globe. It was the highest traffic day on the Food Day MA website!
In Summary: The HSBA made a big impact on Food Day, supporting an important cause that relates to members’ businesses, and satisfied a lot of taste buds to happy people in Harvard Square on October 24th. We look forward to collaborating with you on Food Day in 2013.
