It has come to our attention that there has been discrepency with the date of the event. The correct date for this event is:

Monday October 22nd

*Attention Community Organizations*
***We invite representatives of your food focused community organization to attend the event and promote your work and opportunities for engagement. We will be offering shared information tables that attendees will be able to browse before and after the scheduled programming.

A member of your organization is not required to staff a table, but is encouraged to display information that is relevant to the mission of Food Day and Food Action Collective. Please contact white.caz@gmail.com for more information***

Food Justice Symposium - A Food Day Event
Monday, October 22nd, 4 - 7pm
Native American Student and Community Center (NASCC)
Sponsored by Food Action Collective
We will be framing the event with the Portland Multnomah Food Policy Council's definition of Food Justice: 
 
"The Food Justice movement envisions a food system that is inclusive, community-led and participatory, without the exploitation of people, land, or the environment. It identifies and acts to remove the significant structural inequities that exist within our food and economic systems. Food Justice activists seek to establish healthy, resilient communities with equitable access to nourishing and culturally appropriate food."
 
The purpose of this event is to provide attendees with: 
1. A critical comprehension of food justice
2. An awareness of the interconnections within the food system
3. An understanding of the complexities, challenges, and opportunities within the food justice movement
 
AGENDA 
4:00 - 4:15 Welcome and overview 
4:15 - 5:00 Panel discussion with guests: 
- Martin Donohoe, MD, Professor of Community Health and Senior Physician at Kaiser
- Sharon Thornberry, Community Food Systems Manager, Oregon Food Bank
- Jaime Arredondo, Board Member and Treasurer, CAPACES Leadership Institute
- Shellea Allen, Vice-President, UNITE HERE Oregon
- Helen Nash, Village Gardens
5:05 - 6:00 Facilitated discussion
6:00 - 7:00 Community dinner and networking 
A sustainably sourced dinner will be provided (while supplies last) by NAYA's Nawitka Catering.

Hello everyone! This event is happening on Monday, the 22nd from 4 – 7pm. Unfortunately there will not be a vegan option, although there will be a vegetarian option. I apologize for this and we will do our best in the future to accommodate a wide range of food preferences.

I would like to add this event to the Northwest VEG website but as Derek mentioned, the date on this page and the website are not the same. Also, do you know if the dinner will have a vegan option? Thanks!

I have found conflicting information about what day this event is scheduled for. Is it the 22nd or 23rd? The Food Day website says the 22nd.
