National Food Day: Making Great Things Happen in the Tenderloin, SF

The American Public Health Association (APHA) Community Health Planning and Policy Development (CHPPD) Section is hosting the second annual community action event in San Francisco on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 8:30am to 3:30pm in the Tenderloin District. We are looking for volunteers to participate in the event. The CHPPD Section is partnering with GLIDE (, St. Anthony's (, the San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium (, and a number of other local partners, to celebrate the 2nd Annual National Food Day (  On Saturday morning, volunteers will either work with GLIDE’s staff to prepare and cook a nutritious meal for GLIDE’s Senior Social and Food Day Luncheon (8:30am to 12:30pm) or St. Anthony's staff to prepare and serve food for the homeless (9:15am to 1:30pm).  In the early afternoon, we will also conduct a walking audit/tour (1:30pm to 3:30pm) to assess the food environment in the Tenderloin District. Throughout the day, we’ll conduct a Facebook-a-thon fundraiser for GLIDE’s programs that address the Social Determinants of Health. Free breakfast will be provided. Please sign-up online and include your name and email in the comment box.
