One of the main priorities of Food Day, as outlined by CSPI, is promoting safer, healthier diets. As a cookbook author and teacher, one of my main missions is to teach people about delicious, healthy, accessible and affordable food that can be prepared on a daily basis and will help maintain good health and prevent disease.
As I’ve learned by experience, we CAN and SHOULD make the effort to prepare at least one healthy meal per week for our family, friends, or loved ones. For guidance, I consulted with one of the most widely quoted and highly respected authorities in the field of nutrition: Dr. Walter Willett, Chairman of Nutrition of the Harvard School of Public Health and author of the best-selling “Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy”.
As you can see from the video at www.spicesoflife.com Walter introduces the HSPH “Healthy Eating Plate”, an easy-to-follow guide to healthy eating. Inspired by the USDA MyPlate, Harvard’s plate is more explicit and shows clearly which foods best correspond to each portion of the plate. To make it even more helpful, I selected a few easy and delicious dishes from my book “Simple Asian Meals” with accompanying recipes. Hopefully, this will inspire you to plan a great meal for Food Day or ANY day.
