About the Food & Film Festival for Vegetarian Awareness
Holistic Health Club's 2013 Food & Film Festival will be held in October at Ventura College in Ventura, CA. We will kickoff our Vegetarian Awareness Film Festival on October 1st in honor of World Vegetarian Day, in the Fireside Lounge & Quad Area. The Food & Film Festival will be held on Monday October 7th in our Performing Arts Center 10:00am - 8:00pm, featuring relevant film screenings, a vegan food sampling tent, booths of local Holistic Health Practitioners, a panel discussion on Food as Medicine, and many other exciting activities. We will also host additional film screenings and have presenters throughout the month of October talking about plant-based nutrition, food as medicine, creative recycling, composting, urban gardening, and environmental sustainability concepts to Holistic Health Classes at Ventura College. All of our events are open to the community. Our October Event Calendar will be available on the Holistic Health Club's Facebook page. Flyers and the event calendar will be handed out on Ventura College campus and around the Ventura community by Holistic Health Club members and local volunteers September through October. This month-long event will be free to attend for students, faculty and the local community.
Vegetarian Awareness Theme – Why Vegan?
October is Vegetarian Awareness Month. The Holistic Health Club is focused on bringing holistic health-related opportunities to the Ventura College student community. Recently, awareness has been raised on the dangers of GMO's in our food supply. Thanks in part due to our plant-based nutrition presentations at last year’s Holistic Health Festival, many students have expressed an interest in vegetarianism and veganism. Since we are focusing on plant-based nutrition this year, we've decided to add a Food Sampling event to the festival to emphasize how simple & delicious it is to transition to vegetarianism or veganism. Through our efforts in favor of the Good Food Movement, we are also encouraging positive change in the Food Service and Agriculture departments on campus.
Non-Vegetarians should also join in this celebration!
- Eat meat-free for the day or throughout the month
- Learn how a vegetarian diet can benefit you personally
- Try the meatless options available at local restaurants and eateries
- Discuss vegetarianism with your interested friends, family and co-workers
- Host a meatless meal or potluck for your friends
- Eat meatless meals on a regular basis
Volunteers Are Needed
Volunteers are needed for the entire event all month long! Volunteer shifts are two, three and five hours. We need experienced caterers/servers who have a valid CA Food Handlers Card for our Vegan Food Sampling Tent on Oct 7th. We are also looking for moderators for the Film Discussions – moderators will facilitate student discussions following each film – to be a moderator, please volunteer for Oct 1st, 7th, or 24th! If you are Vegan or Vegetarian and would like to help us with our Vegan Outreach efforts, please volunteer for Oct 1st or 7th to hand out Vegan/Vegetarian Literature. If you would like to sign up for a volunteer shift, please contact Stephanie Bucklin firstname.lastname@example.org, or stop by one of the Holistic Health Club meetings to sign up in person!
